Our Purpose & History
Our purpose: Raise
awareness of our causes & encourage deep friendships. We have fun when we're together. By developing skills, friendships
& individuals, we'll flourish.
Delta Phi Epsilon was founded by 5 NYU law
students on March 17, 1917. These pioneers created the first nonsectarian social sorority & the first
founded at a professional school. Nonsectarian means they choose not to affiliate with any religion, thus
making all feel welcome. Our motto, seen on our Crest & Sisterhood Badge, is "Esse
Quam Videri", Latin for "to be rather than seem to be". Described as "down to earth", we proudly
wear our colors Royal Purple & Pure Gold. Our mascot
is the unicorn & our gem is the pearl.
Beta Mu Chapter
was founded March 27, 1994. We celebrate our 14th Anniversary this year. Before DPhiE, we were a local: Sigma
Delta Upsilon, founded March 1980. Chapter motto: "You can be unique & still go Greek".
We're among the older Rowan sororities, thriving for 24 years. We have a national's strength with the closeness of a local.
Our Mission
Our mission: Promote
deep friendships among women based on their strong moral character regardless of race, religion or nationality. We strive
to make a difference by educating others on our charities and reaching out to the campus & community.
Our main causes: Delta Phi Epsilon Scholarship Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis & Anorexia
Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD). Our chapter has 2 causes close to our hearts: Breast Cancer Awareness
& the Lynn Darren Education Foundation established in memory of our beloved Sister.
